Miss Annie D. Horton, a teacher in the public school system here for 50 years, died this morning. A native of St. Joseph, she would have been 96 Nov. 10.
The home at 401 South 12th street, has been in the family for more than 100 years. When the house was built it ws on the level with grounds surrounding it. The stone wall which supports the terrace was made necessary when the city streets were cut through.
During her lifetime Miss Horton homesteaded a large tract of land in Hyannis, Neb., for three years. She taught school there during that period.
On Aug. 30, 1953, Miss Horton too her first airplane ride at the age of 85. She said at the time that although it was her first, she hoped it would not be her last ride. The occasion was the Junior Chamber of Commerce Air Show at Rosecrans Field.
Miss Horton was a member of the Christ Episcopal Church, the Dorcas Society, and a charter member of the Busy Workers of that church.
Survivors include one sister, Mrs. Jesse a. Underhill, of St. Joseph, and several cousins, three of whom live in St. Joseph. They are Mrs. Robert B. Orr, Dr. H.K. Wallace, and ______Orr.
