| Brief Biography: Nicknamed "Steamboat". He was the grandson, through his mother's side, of M. Jeff Thompson, who was a Confederate General known as the "Swamp Fox" and mayor of St. Joseph. M. Jeff Thompson had the privilege on April 3, 1860 of making a speech and slapping the back of the first pony on its inaugural run of the Pony Express which took place at the Patee House in St. Joseph.
