| Brief Biography: From Obituary - W. W. GARRETT IS DEAD
Had been employed by Wyeth Hardware Firm for 65 years.
William W. Garrett, eighty-one years old, the oldest employee of the Wyeth Hardware and Manufacturing Company, both in age as well as years of service, died shortly before noon today at his home, 1918 Savannah avenue. Mr. Garrett became ill this morning while on his way to work. He returned to his home and died a few hours later. Death was due to heart trouble.
Mr. Garrett was born in Bastrop, Louisiana, and came to St. Joseph in 1870. He entered the employ of the Wyeth Hardware company at the age of sixteen years, and only recently had completed sixty-five years of active service with the company. In 1920, he was given a dinner by the company and presented with a gold watch for the completion of fifty years connection with the firm.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Anna E. Garrett; three daughters, Mrs. Robert Hopkins and Mrs. James Drais, St. Joseph, and Mrs. Fred Vollmer, Miami, Florida, and a son, William F. Garrett, Seattle Wash. Mr. Garrett was a member of the first Methodist Episcopal Church and the Knights of Pythias. The body is at Meierhoffer's mortuary. |
