Brief Biography: St. Joseph Gazette 1/26/1907 Mrs. Virginia Woodson, widow of Silas C. Woodson, who was the first Democratic governor of Missouri, after the Civil War, died here today of Paralysis, aged 74 years. Mrs. Woodson had lived in St. Joseph forty-five years before she moved to this city five years ago. Mrs. Woodson's death was sudden. She died at the home of her daughter Mrs. Jefferson Hosea. She was married three times, Mrs. Woodson was born in 1846 at Bethany, West Va., and was the eldest daughter of the Rev. Dr. Moses Lard, a pioneer in the Christian Church. She came to St. Joseph in 1866. She was educated at Columbia College and was first married in 18??. With her husband, she then removed to Lexington, Ky, where the Rev. Mr. Lard lived for three years. They then returned to St. Joseph. Her marriage to Silas Woodson took place during the year he was elected .....which extended to 1874, the social functions at the governor's mansion at the capital, were pronounced and most brilliant of any of those known up to that time, After the expiration of Governor Woodson's term of office he returned to St. Joseph, where the family made its home. He died in St. Joseph on Oct. 9, 1896. Mrs. Woodson made her residence in St. Joseph until six years ago, when she moved to Kansas City and lived with her daughter, Mrs. Hosea, at whose home she died.
