Wife of Member of the School Board and Prominent Church and Club Circles.
Mrs. John P. Strong died at 7 o'clock last night at Ensworth Hospital, where she was taken a short time ago for an operation. It had been known from the time of the operation that the patient could not recover.
Mrs. Strong was a daughter of Stephen Geiger, who for many years, was engaged in the mercantile business at Twelfth street and Grand avenue, and she was born at the family home at that location, March 3, 1866.
She was graduated from Central high school in 1884 and was married to Mr. Strong, May 7, 1895. She was an active member of the First Christian Church , and was a worker in the Organ Guild and the Christian Women's Board of Missions. She was a member of the Runcie Club , and was vice-president of that club until her health failed.
Surviving Mrs. Strong, besides her husband, and her aged father, are two sisters, Mrs. Glenwood Yancy and Mrs. B. F. Neidorp, both of St. Joseph. Her brother-in-law,Samuel Rockwell, chief engineer of the Lake Shore & Michigan Southern Railway, was expected to arrive here today, but a telegram at noon said he was detained in Cleveland. His son and little daughter have made their home with the Strongs since the death of their mother, who was Mrs. Strong's sister, several years ago.
It was but recently that Mr. and Mrs. Strong moved into a handsome new home, which they built at Twenty-sixth and Francis streets. Mr. Strong is a member of the school board and publisher of the St. Joseph Daily Courier, a court paper.
The funeral services will be conducted at the First Christian Church, Tenth and Edmond streets, at 3 o'clock Thursday afternoon, the Rev. C.M. Chilton officiating, assisted by the Rev. M.M. Goode. Interment private.
The pallbearers will be: Oscar Bandel, Dr. Charles G. Geiger, Al Kienzel, Albert Reichart, Henry Strong, William Rockwell, Samuel Rockwell Jr. and Florence Geiger. |
