| Brief Biography: Excerpt from The St. Joseph News-Press

Mr. Strong was born in Jacksonville, Ill. and when he was a small boy came to St. Joseph with his parents. He was graduated from Central High School in 1875 and entered Harvard University from which he was graduated.
It was during his Harvard days the Mr. Strong secured a shoot from the historically famous Washington elm in Cambridge, Mass., brought it home and planted it in the yard of the Strong home. The shoot grew into a stipling tree and after the death of Mr. Strong's mother it was transplanted to the family lot in Mount Mora Cemetery where it is now full grown.
Marker for tree
The famous elm tree in Cambridge is gone and, as there are only a few of the cion descendants left, the tree in Mount Mora has a marker indicating it origin. Beneath the original elm Washington stood when he took command of the continental army.
Mr. Strong also studied at Washington University in St. Louis, and upon his return practiced law here for three years. His father purchased the old St. Joseph Daily Herald in 1885, and after his death four years later the son became its city editor. That same year he cast his hat into the political ring and was appointed city assessor, an office he held for six years, after which he was named city comptroller for two years.
he moved to Columbus, Ohio for a short stay, but returned to St. Joseph, purchasing The Courier in 1901 and retaining its ownership until the present time.
Funeral Tomorrow
Mr. Strong was married in 1895 to Miss Emma Geiger, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Geiger. She died in 1910. Besides his sister, Mrs. Eastin, Mr. Strong is survived by a brother, Theron O. Strong of Kerrville, Texas. He made his home with his niece, Miss Helen Summy.
The body is at the Heaton-Bowman mortuary where services will be tomorrow at 10:30 o,clock. Dr. C.M. Chilton officiating. Burial will be in Mount Mora cemeteyr beside the body of his wife.
